Profile Field Types
Every Company Profile in the Clover Network is broken up into sections that contain various types of information about the company. We’ve found it helpful to think of in terms of layers - not unlike an onion. Special conditions must be met before you can gain access to the layers below the top-most one. There are four different types of fields in a company profile:
Public Fields - Information in this section is available to all Clover Users, regardless of connection status or role. The fields in this section are part of the standard Clover Company Profile and are the same fields for all companies. Examples of Public Fields include Headquarters Address, Website, and Annual Revenue.
Private Fields - Information in this section is only available once a connection has been established between your company and the company whose profile you are viewing. The fields in this section are part of the standard Clover Company Profile and are the same fields for all companies. Examples of Private Fields include Company Identification Numbers (DUNS, GLN, etc), Contacts, and Locations.
Confidential Fields - Information in this section is visible to companies whose connection status is "Connected", and where the viewing User has the “Confidential Access” permission. The fields in this section are part of the standard Clover Company Profile and are the same fields for all companies. Examples of Confidential Fields include Company Bank Account Name, Account and Routing Numbers.
Custom fields - Because every company has its own unique data that it maintains about its trading partners, Clover has been designed to allow Users to customize the data they want to manage. Custom Fields come in two types - Internal and External.
- Internal Custom Fields - These fields are created and administered by administrators in your organization, present only in profiles of your connected companies, and visible only to other Users from your company. Internal Custom Fields can NOT be used in a Custom Form step within a workflow, to collect data.
- External Custom Fields - These fields are created and administered by administrators in your organization, present only in profiles of your connected companies, but visible BOTH to other Users from your company AND to Users of the connected company about whom the data is being stored. External Custom Fields CAN be used in a Custom Form step within a workflow, to collect data.
This is often the most complicated part of the Clover Platform to understand, so let’s take a look at a diagram that illustrates this difference:
Company A’s User A1 can see both Internal and External Custom Fields created by her Company and Maintained on connected Company B’s profile | Company B’s User B1 can see only the External Custom Fields created by Company A, about his company. |
